Like all other Dachshunds, her nose is dipped and pointed, her paws are large, and her ears are quite floppy with her tail being long and skinny. Her build is quite muscular, given her elongated shape, with her legs being stubby and giving her a quite silly stride and waddling walk.
Personality:
Being the breed she is Gretel is a happy-go-lucky dog who adore just about anybody and everybody. She’s excitable when it comes to meeting a new being. Her tail wags about a mile a minute as her eyes brighten up, her droopy ears perk to further express her joy. Of course, there’s her stubborn, curious side as well as he digging habit. She loves to dig and digs everywhere. Gretel cannot go a day with having to dig up the earth for whatever reason, most of the time it’s when her hunting instinct kicks in and takes over.
History:
Gretel started off living the easy life with a small family: a dad, mother, and their three young children. Her days were quite content, as she was an energetic young pup, playing with the children and learning basic tricks to show off. It was the life any dog would enjoy; spending day after day with those that lavished you with love and affection. That was until the family had to move and couldn’t bring her with them. Gretel was heartbroken. She felt devastated. They dropped her off at a rescue facility, hoping that she would be adopted as soon as possible.
It was several months later that she had been adopted by a guy who wanted to give his girlfriend a lovable dog as an anniversary present. He had thought it was a good idea at the time, until she saw Gretel as an undesirable companion. She had wanted a collie instead, not some wiener dog. Reluctantly, she kept Gretel.
The black Dachshund did what she could to be affectionate to the young woman, but she only got scolded in return, especially because of her digging habits in the backyard. She would get smacked and put in the kennel as punishment for her bad habit. It didn’t take long for the woman to get tired of Gretel, wanting to get rid of her as soon as possible. She would lie and tell her boyfriend that the dog had run away, when really she had dumped the dog off downtown.
Gretel was scared and alone on the streets since then. She hid for the most part, using back alleys and her small stature to her advantage. Eventually, she warmed up to the folks that were more than happy to see the little Dachshund, even giving her treats when they could spare some. Her life was hard but she managed to make an alright living for the most part.
